FAQ

How to protect rug if there is spills and pet accident?

Liquid spills should be addressed immediately; first absorb as much of the spill as possible by blotting with a clean white towel or cloth, folded to make a pad. Do not rub, and do not use salt, baking soda, or any commercial cleaning products. If no color is bleeding from the rug’s dyes, a mild solution of three tablespoons distilled white vinegar and 1/4 teaspoon of mild liquid dish washing detergent in a quart of lukewarm water can be applied carefully to the area and blotted dry again. Do not over-wet. Then, with another clean cloth, lightly dampened with clean water, re-dampen the area working toward the center of the spill, and absorb the moisture again, repeating until no foreign matter is visible on the cloth. Absorb the last moisture by leaving a folded cloth on the area under a weight for an hour or so, then elevating the area to allow air to circulate on both the front and back of the rug. A fan or area heater speeds this process

What to do in case of flooding?

In the event of flooding, it is necessary to dry the rug quickly in order to prevent dye bleeding and mildew. If a wet vacuum is not available, a carpet cleaner can be called to extract the water, but not to clean the rug. Elevate the rug so that air can reach both surfaces, and contact a rug washing specialist as soon as possible for proper cleaning and drying.

Ten Recommendation to protect your rug:

  1. Keep the carpet protected from sun rays by heavy curtains or shutters.
  2. No object that is damp or likely to cause dampness should be places on the carpet.
  3. To prevent localized wear and tear, occasionally move or turn the carpet so that the normal pattern of traffic is spread uniformly over different parts of the carpet.
  4. Carpets should not be spread under doors. The lack of space between the bottom of the door and the carpet can cause the carpet to fold and suffer excessive wear and tear.
  5. On hard surfaces such as marble or linoleum the carpet should have an underlay or padding made of polyester to prevent sliding of the carpet, especially silk ones.
  6. The runners that are placed on stairs must be fixed on both sides with metal rods to prevent them from sliding. Once in while the runners should be pulled by a few centimeter up or down to ensure uniform wear and tear.
  7. If the carpet is spread over stone surface or on mosaic, it should be ensured that the Joints are not sharp and uneven.
  8. The leg of a chair, sofa, table or any other heavy item of furniture damages the pile of the carpet. A small piece of linoleum, wood or other similar type of material should be put under the legs of these objects to protect wear and tear of the carpet.
  9. The portion of the carpet that remains under the bed or under any other piece of furniture should be frequently exposed to sunlight and fresh air, as the lack of these might lead to growth of moths.
  10. Keep the carpet clean. It’s the most important recommendation. Cleanliness ensures longevity and perfect form.

Guidelines for stain & spot removal from carpet and rugs:

  1. Immediately blot up as much of the liquid stain as possible using a soft, white, absorbent material like a towel or napkin. Though most of the carpets produced today are treated with stain-resistant treatments, no carpet can be said to be completely stain-proof. And longer the stain remains in the carpet, more permanently it sets into it.
  2. Scrape away the solid or semi-solid stain using a blunt spatula or spoon. Never use a knife as it’s sharp edges could harm the pile fibers.
  3. Never scrub or brush a stain; scrubbing can harm the fibers and have the adverse reaction of making the stain set in to the carpet or rug.
  4. Vacuum away as much of the solid stain as possible.
  5. Pretest the spot removal agent on an inconspicuous area of the carpet. Follow the instructions carefully. Apply a few drops to each  color in the carpet. Press a clean, white towel or napkin lightly over it for approximately 30 seconds. Check both the towel (or napkin) and the carpet for color transfer, color change  or any other damage. Try another spot removal if you notice any change.
  6. To clean the spot, apply a small amount of spot removal agent to the soft, white, absorbent material and gently apply to the stain, working from the edges towards the center of the spot to prevent it from spreading. Continue as long as the stain is getting transferred onto the towel. Apply more solution to a fresh area on the towel and repeat the process as long as the stain is being removed. Patience is a virtue as far as this step is concerned!
  7. In cases where you need to apply more than one spot removal  agent in a sequence, continue applying the first spot removal agent as long as there is any improvement; then move on to the next one.
  8. After the spill has been removed completely, rinse out the affected area with water and blot dry to remove the cleaning solution completely as any residue may attract soil and cause damage to the carpet. To effectively blot up the water, you may use clean, dry towels weighed down by flat, heavy objects like a book; keep changing the towel as they become saturated.
  9. Do not overwet the area. Overwetting of carpets while cleaning may cause damage to the carpet.
